Our History

Christian Care Centers, Inc. (CCC) is a not-for-profit, faith-based (501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that operates three elder-care campuses (Fort Worth, Gunter, and Mesquite, Texas), providing quality housing and healthcare services for seniors in North Texas regardless of race, color, creed, religion, or national origin. Each campus is on-site managed with oversight by the Mesquite campus corporate office. Our Board of Trustees is comprised of Christian men and women who serve on a voluntary basis.

Christian Care Centers was founded on April 4, 1947 under the name of “Home for the Aged” in Gunter, Texas as a ministry to retired Church of Christ ministers. The old Gunter Bible College housed the first residents, who were cared for by monetary donations from individuals and churches, as well as contributions from area neighbors - whether it was cows, garden produce, pigs, or anything else deemed necessary. Known as HILLTOP HAVEN today, it was one of the first area nursing communities in TEXAS to be CERTIFIED for Alzheimer’s care (1989). Hilltop currently serves seniors with 16 retirement apartments, 179 skilled nursing beds for private pay, Medicare, and Medicaid residents (60 of which are dedicated to specialized Alzheimer’s care), Hillside Rehabilitation Center, with mostly private rooms, and Hospice. Hilltop is honored to have dedicated staff, some of whom have been with Christian Care Centers for more than 35 years.

LAKEWOOD VILLAGE, in Fort Worth, opened in 1982 and has expanded to a current multi-level campus that provides three levels of senior care: 157 Retirement Apartments, 34 Assisted Living Apartments, a 48-bed Skilled Nursing Unit with 24-hour nursing and restorative care, accepting Medicare and private-pay residents, and a Wellness Center. Lakewood Village is nestled on 49 acres of beautiful wooded landscape with a fully stocked lake just minutes from downtown Fort Worth.

CHRISTIAN CARE CENTER, in Mesquite, opened in 1973 as primarily a nursing community with 120 beds. Since then, the campus has expanded to 26 acres with five levels of care. Our McMillan hi-rise apartments and Hartin cottages provide affordable, rental retirement living with included and ala carte services, our 80-apartment Greenway Village entrance fee, upscale retirement community features one and two bedroom apartment homes, offering amenities, services, and a health care benefit for future needs, The Courtyard at Christian Care Center is a 44 apartment Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Assisted Living community, our 61 apartment Bentley Assisted Living community provides assistance for seniors needing some daily assistance, but not full nursing care, our Skilled Nursing Center contains a Rehabilitation Center and 175 skilled nursing beds, 32 of which are dedicated to seniors suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our state-of-the-art Wellness Center is equipped with an indoor heated pool, a relaxing spa area, a juice bar/lounge, and gym area. A Fitness Professional plans, schedules, and assists with exercise/aerobics, Tai Chi, body balance, yoga, Pilates, and other senior friendly activities on senior friendly equipment.

In 1993, because of a desire to expand our services into communities within a 20-mile radius of Mesquite, Christian Care Home Health – our Campus Without Walls - was established. A Medicare Certified and State Licensed Home Health Agency serving Collin, Dallas, Henderson, Johnson, Kaufman, Rockwall and Tarrant counties, Christian Care Home Health provides 24-hour, on-call skilled nursing (RN, LVN), speech therapy, IV therapy, home health aides, telemonitoring, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical social services, medical supplies, light cooking and housekeeping, personal care attendants, companion services, and medical supplies to home-bound patients. With the expansion of Home Health services to our Lakewood Village campus, we are currently serving more than 800 people.

Hospice Care was added in 2007 and currently serves the Mesquite and Gunter campuses.
